This post is adapted from Colin's thesis in Episode 1.
It seems as though most people today are concerned with things that don’t matter much. The things on TV or on social media - things that ultimately are irrelevant when it comes to our eternity - are what consume the majority of thoughts today. However, spiritual truth is relevant to all of us, whether or not we are focused on it.
Truth is unchangeable, and therefore it cannot change. Truths about God, man, angels, salvation, heaven and hell - even though they’re beyond our ability to fully understand, are steadfast and immovable; unwavering like the rock of Gibraltar.
Meanwhile, everything else - everything tangible on this earth - is changing. Babies evolve into toddlers, who evolve into children, who evolve into teenagers, who evolve into adults, into moms and dads, who evolve into grandma and grandpa. The house across the street will look very different in 100 years. Trees grow, flowers fade, iron rusts. Even most intangibles are vulnerable to change. Determination dwindles, energy erodes, love is fickle, faith fades, emotions evolve. But spiritual truth never changes. It is a firm foundation to build upon.
Such truth never fades, and can never be blown away. It will never self-destruct, and can never be deconstructed. It will always be here in its original state. Truth is as unchanging as God - because God is truth. It is said that God is love and rightly so. But God also is truth. The Father is truth, the Lord Jesus is truth, and the Spirit of Truth is truth that guides into all truth. Therefore, since God cannot change into someone different than who He is, truth likewise cannot change into something different. Even non-spiritual truth does not change. 1000 years ago, 2 plus 2 equaled 4, gravity pulled down not up, and H2 plus O made water.
Truth remains as it always was, and always will be. Before you and I were, God was good. Eons from now, God will still be good. Truth is something that everyone can build their lives on. Because it will never crumble, it will not devalue, it will never be conquered, it will never be sunk. Truth will never come down, it will never change. And this fact is solace for the thinking person, yet it may be difficult for some - because many today want to make their own truth. They want to define reality, even down to who and what they are. They want to be God with no apologies. But even that does not defeat truth, because truth never changes. And we can forever take refuge in the unfailing consistency of truth.
